Silver Powder
Silver powder, refers to metallic silver in powder form. It is a very important precious metal material in industrial production. Silver powder is mainly composed of tiny metallic silver particles, and its properties largely depend on the particle size, particle size distribution, particle morphology (spherical, flake, dendritic, etc.), and specific surface area of these particles.
Chemical Property:Silver powder has the chemical properties of metallic silver, such as good conductivity, thermal conductivity, and ductility. It is not easily oxidized at room temperature, but when exposed to air, it reacts with sulfides to form silver sulfide (Ag ₂ S), causing the surface to turn black (lose luster). It can dissolve in nitric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid.
Physical Property:The appearance is usually a gray black or gray white powder (due to its absorption and scattering of light, rather than the silver white color of block silver). Its physical properties (such as bulk density, tap density, specific surface area) are closely related to particle morphology.
Classification
Silver powder can be classified in various ways, with the most common classification criteria being particle morphology and particle size.
Spherical Silver Powder
Characteristics: The particles are spherical or nearly spherical, with good fluidity, high tap density, and relatively small specific surface area.
Preparation methods: Gas phase atomization method, plasma method, etc. are commonly used for preparation.
Application: Mainly used for conductive fillers, 3D printing (silver paste), photovoltaic electrodes, etc., especially suitable for occasions that require high filling density and good fluidity.
Flake Silver Powder
Characteristics: The particles are flat flakes, resembling fish scales. With a larger specific surface area, it is easier to form surface contact between flake silver powders at the same volume, thus constructing excellent conductive pathways.
Preparation method: Spherical silver powder or silver particles are usually processed into rolled sheets by ball milling or chemical reduction.
Application: This is the preferred material for preparing conductive coatings, conductive inks, and conductive adhesives. Because it can form an efficient conductive network at a lower filling amount, saving costs and having good adhesion.
Dendritic Silver Powder
Characteristics: The particles are dendritic or irregular in shape, with a huge specific surface area and complex three-dimensional structure.
Preparation method: Mainly prepared by special chemical electrolysis or chemical reduction methods.
Application: Due to its large specific surface area, it has high reactivity and adsorption capacity, and is commonly used in fields such as chemical catalysis, antibacterial materials, sensors, etc. It can also be used to manufacture conductive pastes for low-temperature sintering.
Nano Silver Powder
Characteristics: Refers to ultrafine silver powder with a particle size between 1-100 nanometers. It has significant surface effects, small size effects, and quantum effects, making it exhibit distinct characteristics from ordinary silver powder in optics, electronics, catalysis, and other aspects.
Preparation methods: chemical reduction method, gas-phase method, etc.
Applications: High end conductive ink (used for printing electronics), antibacterial agents (medical devices, textiles), catalysts, SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) substrates, etc.
Silver Powder Application
Silver powder has the chemical properties of metallic silver, such as good conductivity, thermal conductivity, and ductility. It is mainly applied in the following fields:
Electronic and Electrical IndustryThick film integrated circuits/chip components: Making conductor paste for printed circuits, electrodes, resistors, etc.
Conductive adhesive: Used for chip bonding, LED packaging, ceramic capacitor termination, etc., providing mechanical connection and electrical conductivity.
Conductive ink/coating: Used for printing RFID antennas, flexible circuits, membrane switches, keyboards, electromagnetic shielding, etc. Flake silver powder is the absolute mainstay in this field.
Photovoltaic industry: Used to manufacture front silver electrodes for solar panels and collect current.
Catalytic FieldSilver powder (especially nano silver and dendritic silver) is an efficient catalyst used in chemical reactions such as formaldehyde oxidation, ethylene epoxidation to produce ethylene oxide, and fuel cells.
Antibacterial material
Nano silver powder has extremely strong antibacterial and bactericidal abilities and is widely used in medical devices (such as antibacterial catheters), antibacterial coatings, textiles (antibacterial socks, underwear), water purification filters, etc. It can effectively inhibit bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
New Energy and Chemical IndustryZinc silver batteries and silver cadmium batteries: Used as electrode active materials.
Chemical reagents: Used for preparing various silver compounds.
Other High-end Fields3D printing: Used as a metal powder material for printing complex silver jewelry or electronic components.
High end lubricant: Flake silver powder is used as an additive for high-temperature lubricants.
Jewelry: Used for manufacturing imitation silver jewelry or as decorative material.
