Hastelloy C-276 Powder
Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276) is a nickel-based superalloy primarily composed of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, with the addition of tungsten. It is widely recognized as a "universal corrosion-resistant alloy" and is renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in extremely aggressive environments, particularly those containing chlorides and various mixed acids.
Key Characteristics and Corrosion Resistance Mechanism
The outstanding performance of C-276 alloy stems from its precisely designed chemical composition and metallurgical processes:
Excellent Resistance to General CorrosionIt offers resistance to both oxidizing media (such as nitric acid, and solutions containing ferric or cupric ions) and reducing media (such as dilute sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid). This "dual-purpose" characteristic enables it to perform reliably in complex and variable industrial environments.
Superior Resistance to Localized CorrosionThis is the most notable advantage of C-276. The high contents of chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo) provide exceptional resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion in environments containing chloride ions (Cl⁻). Additionally, it is an excellent material for resisting chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC), effectively eliminating the susceptibility of austenitic stainless steels to cracking under such conditions.
Excellent WeldabilityBy controlling the carbon (C) and silicon (Si) contents to extremely low levels (C ≤ 0.01%, Si ≤ 0.08%), the precipitation of harmful carbides during welding is effectively avoided. As a result, C-276 does not require complex post-weld solution annealing, and the welded joints maintain excellent corrosion resistance—a significant advancement over earlier C-series alloys.
Good FabricabilityAlthough its strength is higher than that of conventional austenitic stainless steels and it work-hardens relatively rapidly, C-276 can still be formed using conventional cold and hot working techniques, while maintaining good toughness.
Hastelloy C-276 alloy powder is a corrosion-resistant nickel based alloy powder mainly composed of nickel chromium molybdenum tungsten. It is a key raw material for advanced manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), powder metallurgy, and metal injection molding. The powder has the characteristics of high sphericity, smooth surface, low oxygen content, uniform particle size distribution, good flowability, high bulk density, and high tap density, which can meet the requirements of various additive manufacturing processes such as selective laser melting (SLM), electron beam melting (EBM), and laser cladding deposition (DED).
